Somewhere along the line, sports drinks like Gatorade--designed for use by athletes during intense competition--became common place beverages for everyday general consumption. You can get these sports drinks pretty much anywhere--from you local convenience store, gas station, "soda" machine, fountain soda dispenser, and yes, even your favorite coffee shop. If a store sells beverages, it's likely that they sell these athletic beverages as part of the line up.
Problem is, while the simple carbohydrates contained in these sports beverages are great for refueling athletes during intense, longer duration workouts and competition, these simple sugars are just that--sugar!! If you're not in the heat of a furious competition with sweat pouring from you brow, catching your breath, here's a revelation: you shouldn't be drinking a sports drink! They're made for SPORTS. Very intense sports at that; not everyday general use. If you're drinking a sports drink while sitting behind a computer, there's only one place all those carbs and sugars are going--your waist!! Instead, go for water with a spritz of lemon, unsweetened iced tea, or a non-calorie, stevia-sweetened beverage to quench you thirst for those times when athletic performance is not your main goal. biotrust nutrition
